Cernunnos statue

Clay, maple roots, quick-dry cement, epoxy, metal (skeleton), moss, hair, antlers, bones.

Approx. 8’ /2.4 metres tall. Second large statue created at Le Chalet Crepuscule (Ardennes, Belgium)

Completed for Beltaine full moon gathering 2019.

Shown at right with original tree-branch ‘antlers’ which were later replaced with stag antlers (below)

The torch between the antlers, lit during rituals, indicates ‘Cernunnos Vindonos’ the illuminated one.

It is related to the mythos of the area, as the town of Saint Hubert is only half an hour away, being the home of the well-known (depicted in much renaissance art) christian story of the stag appearing with a glowing cross between His antlers.

Considering that the Witch-God has longer been depicted in such a way with torch or candle twixt antlers or horns, this seems an obvious recension of an earlier form I have here restored in its original locale
